This engraved portrait of Georgiana, Duchess of Bedford, reproduces an oil painting by Sir Edwin Landseer (), son of the engraver and writer John Landseer. In he began studying under Benjamin Robert Haydon: "Landseer is said to have painted the ass in Haydon's Christ's Entry Into Jerusalem " (Ormond, p. 4). John Landseer (), born in Lincoln, England; now best known as the father of Sir Edwin Landseer, whose paintings he was first to engrave and make widely known. At 24 he had executed some admirable plates. In , he opened a school of engraving, became an associate of the royal academy the year after, and devoted much time to archaeology.
